247 Group acquires a US research peptide portfolio

The four-brand online business, based in Pennsylvania, is our latest acquisition and our first in the United States.

In August, 247 Group completed the acquisition of a research peptide business based in Pennsylvania. It sells research-use-only peptides online under four of its own brands, turns over around $44 million a year, and the deal values it at roughly $70 million.

It’s our first acquisition in the United States. Several of our brands already sell to American customers, but until now we had never owned a business there.

A year old, and already this big

The first thing that stood out was the pace. The business launched its first brand just over a year ago. Reaching $44 million in that time would be remarkable in almost any category. Doing it with very little paid advertising is rarer still.

Nearly all of that growth has come from word of mouth: customers who reorder, and who pass the name on. That kind of demand is the hardest thing to manufacture and the easiest to build on. The margins are strong too, which leaves plenty of room to invest in the things that make a brand dependable.

Why we bought it

At heart, this is an e-commerce business. Product is sourced from specialist laboratories, then packaged, branded and shipped under the company’s own names and sold through its own websites. That’s a model we know well, and it’s where our operations and brand-building experience count.

In a category like this, trust is everything. Customers want consistent quality, clear labelling and fast delivery, and once they find a brand that gets those right, they tend to stay. This business has built exactly that kind of loyalty in a very short time.

We look at a lot of businesses. What stood out here was how little of the growth had been bought: most new customers came through existing ones, and that shows up everywhere in the numbers.

What changes, and what doesn’t

Every product will continue to be sold strictly for research use. That isn’t up for discussion under our ownership. Our focus now is on what we bring to every business in the group: stronger operations, tighter quality control, clear labelling and compliance, and steady, careful growth.

The brands keep their own names and identities. The customers who got them here should notice better service, not a different company.

More to come in the US

This is our first American deal, and we don’t expect it to be the last. If you own a well-run brand in the US or the UK and you’re starting to think about what comes next, we’d like to talk.
